Being Thankful for the simple things

Some may struggle to think of things that we can be thankful for. Sometimes in life we can get overwhelmed and focus our energy more on what we want but do not have, that we overlook the small things in life. The everyday things that we tend to just expect or we start to take advantage of. When you begin to be overwhelmed with all that is going on in life STOP and think of all of the simple things in life that bring us joy. Remember to be thankful/grateful for all of the things we do have.

For example:

The roof over your head ...

Drinkable water. ...

Having food to eat ...

Access to the internet...

Friends and family. ...

Your health...

Try to remember that it is the simple things in life that can bring us the most joy. During this pandemic I have really taken notice to all of the small and simple pleasures that I neglected for so long. Sitting on the front porch watching the birds and the fish in my pond. I noticed that I could relax and read a book and enjoy the quiet time that I have for myself for the first time in so long. It is the smile from my neighbor as he drives by on his lawn mower. The smell of the fresh flowers in the garden that I finally had time to plant.

How do we find things to be grateful for? Don't be picky: appreciate everything!

For example:

Keep a gratitude journal (if your doing my 52-week challenge, this is week 3)

Challenge yourself - Think of 5 things each day that you may overlook each day - Waking up in the morning, the relationships that you have with your friends & family, your health or the health of your loved ones, the roof over your head even if you live with some one else.

Express yourself... thanking others for their time and recognizing their actions, take time to pick up on the small things that make you smile during the day.

Improve your happiness in other areas of your life - you can be grateful that you have the opportunity to do this. Focus on areas that you want to be thankful for and make a plan to start taking action. The happier you are in each area of your life, the more you will start to realize what you have to be thankful for !

This week really think about all of the small and simple pleasures that life has to offer. What do you like to do to relax? What have you neglected to be thankful for. Take a second to just close your eyes and think of all the wonderful things in life that you have. Sitting down to a hot meal with family & friends or even just sitting with a glass of wine and being able to unwind. Even if you have a million things to do, set them aside for even just a few moments and take that time for yourself. We all need to give ourselves a few moments each day to clear our thoughts and enjoy the simple things in life. Taking time for yourself will also allow you to see a clearer path to reaching your overall goals. Being grateful for the small things will also improve your overall outlook and open up your mind to more positive thoughts and actions in your daily life. Stop feeding into the negativity in the world and be thankful for the small things in life. Have a blessed day and remember to have an opened mind as you challenge yourself this week to see and appreciate all we have to be thankful for. God Bless.
