Work Life Balance

In today's society it is so hard to separate work from home. With so many working from home now; how do we draw the line? What can we do to ensure that we are still having a healthy balance between the two?

Here are a few tips. First, create a list of your days tasks. Then examine each item on your list and put them in order of importance. Separating what is Urgent vs. Important then whatever is left over put at the bottom. Tackle each task in order and try to limit your distractions. If you are typically finished work at 5 pm; then be finished at 5 pm at home. Do not blur the working hours. At 5 pm shut down and walk away. If You are still working in the office, then go home. You need to be able to leave work at work.

Keep a healthy routine. What do I mean? If you are working from home be sure to keep a schedule. Wake up early. Take a shower, just like you normally would. Then have breakfast or a cup of coffee. Take a lunch break when you normally would. If you don't have a set lunch break, create one. Also schedule breaks and get up and walk around. I suggest getting up and moving around at least once per hour. This is good to do even if you are in the office. Getting up will get the blood moving and help stimulate creativity. Sitting for too long is not healthy and causes feelings of being lethargic and uninspired.

Leave work at work. When you are working leave home life at home. There needs to be a clear line and set of boundaries. Your work is important and yes, it pays the bills, but your family and home life need to be important as well. Having a healthy balance can increase your positivity and reduce your stress levels.

Try to prioritize and block out time for yourself and your family. Sit and have dinner as a family. Put the electronics down and talk. Plan weekly game nights and weekend activities. Spending quality time together tends to strengthen the bond and communication levels with your loved ones.

Work/Life balance means something different to everyone. Start small and build up to a comfortable balance. These few tips are small and I hope they encourage you to consider the balance in your life. Have a fantastic weekend. As always, I am here if you would like to reach out to me.
